From YouTube sensation to Jordan Brand Specialist at Nike, Jacob Keller has been able to create a streetwear culture all his own. One would think that someone with as much recognition as him would be impossible to reach, and yet when I contacted him, his response was almost immediate. Much respect for those that have love for their city.
My obsession with YouTube dates back to 2008, when I first discovered the enormous community of Beauty Gurus that exist on this platform. Through the years I have found amazing YouTube channels that have taught me everything I know about makeup, hair and fashion. It was the summer of 2012 when I stumbled across Jacob’s channel. I was impressed by his professionalism, knowledge of street wear and not to mention his Portland roots. Since then, I have been an avid follower of his career. It is wild to see the kid that used to wear graphic Mishka t-shirts become such a refined style icon for many.
Jacob describes his playlist in these words:
“I’m into vibes. I’m into happy. I’m into feeling good. All these songs do that. It’s never heavy listening – it’s something I can drive to, something I can work to, something I can read to. I like versatile tracks that can be applied in different situations.”
Company (feat. Travi$ Scott) – Drake
White Iverson – Post Malone
#icanteven (feat. French Montana) by The Neighbourhood
Down On My Luck by Vic Mensa
Why You Mad (Maximus MMC x tails. Remix) by Rich The Kid
Play No Games (feat. Chris Brown & Ty Dolla $ign) by Big Sean
I sense that Jacob has a sensitive side to him; all these tracks have a great beat so you can literally listen to them in any situation but the lyrics go pretty deep. I appreciate music that not only makes my head bob but also serves a lyrical purpose. Vibes is the absolute perfect way to describe the feelings evoked when listening to his playlist. I am a sucker for a groovy and bouncy beat, and Play No Games is right up my ally.
P.S. I do recall Jacob saying in one of his videos a few years ago that he is not a Jordan kind of guy… well look at you now!
