Meet Charity Stratos. She manages to combine a laid-back energy with the highest level of professionalism and that leaves you wanting to either be her or at least be best friends with the woman.
Founder of Service PDX, Charity has put mad work into creating this incredible multi-use platform which serves as a collaborative studio space for creatives in the local and international industry. I deeply recommend you visit the space (located in the heart of NE). I left Service feeling like I needed to do s***. It was super inspiring to just be in the presence of like-minded individuals. Not to mention the production capability of the Studio is unprecedented in Portland. Service is set up to accommodate versatile needs, from photoshoots (which is what brought me into the studio), to art or live music events, runway shows, professional team meetings or even musician’s rehearsals. The space is complete with a full wrap around bar/kitchen for catering needs, a seamless wet stage, sound booth, an overhead suspension grid and that’s just getting started.
I was drawn to Charity the second that she turned the speakers on. I knew that I had to find out more about where she gets her music and what her favorite songs are at the moment.
Charity – “Music is therapy for me. It guides me into and through introspection. It enhances or nurtures my mood, whatever my mood calls for, and it puts me in deeper touch with myself. Because of that I am always looking for something I like to call that “retro-future.” A sound that inspires a sense of nostalgia while also ushering in something new and inspiring. All of these songs represent that for me. And no season requires a soundtrack quite like summer. These are currently on mine.”
I talked about SoundCloud in a previous post and one of the benefits of this website is that you can find some really underground, super vibey artists. Charity used this application to create a playlist of her favorite tunes, since half of this stuff is not on iTunes or YouTube.
- BCKINGDOM – Colours
- Magic Fades – Ghost on Em (Ft. Denier Rarrar x Shy Girls)
- RapxRnB – Job Jetson – Cheeks (ft. Puzzle)
- Anderson .Paak – Drugs (produced by Lo Def)
- Sluggahent – The Dream That’s My Shit (dirty version)
- Hip Hop – Rich Homie Quan – Up Up and Away Ft. Birman & Young Thug
- Tre Capital – Halfway There (Ft. Danny Seth) (Prod. WondaGurl + Eestbound)
- Eastghost – D’vocean
Support for the underground is one of Charity’s true passions and this playlist reflects that perfectly. I was really feeling Girl by The Internet Music, that track features KAYTRANADA, which I have seen live and have a fat crush on.
Much love, Sofiya Popova
