The must-have Lip Colors being talked about this fall are Lavender, Fuchsia, Brick Red, Burnt Orange, Cherry Blossom Pink, Deep Plum and Nude (which never goes out of style!).
For lavender, I like to stick to a gloss. It goes on a little more sheer and is slightly more workable to get a shade that works for you. My top 2 favorites in this shade are RMS Beauty Lip Shine in Royal, and Make Up For Ever’s Artist Plexi-Gloss in Lilac. Both have a nice finish, the plexi-gloss has a slightly more sticky finish, but for how much shine it brings to the table I was pleasantly surprised it wasn’t stickier.
There are so many amazing Fuchsias out there, but I have narrowed it down to my top 3 favorites. First, for every budget we have Maybelline Lip Studio Color Blur in My-My-Magenta. I love the easy application that comes with a lip pencil. It’s essentially a chubby lipliner that makes application a breeze. Also, if you aren’t feeling the full-on bold that magenta brings, you can use the blur side of this pencil to thin out the color.
Next, we have Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color in Pure Pink. This lipstick is beautiful, goes on, stays put, and doesn’t dry out. It has a much higher price point, but it’s so beautiful that it’s worth paying a little extra.
Last is Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick in Sexer. It’s a bold and bright color that flatters every skin tone. The tube is fun, the price point is affordable at $21, the lipstick stays put and looks beautiful through out the day, making this my ultimate go-to in the fuchsia category.
Brick Red, a stunning shade, is an exciting newcomer this season. If you have been an avid follower of my posts, you know I have a long history of loving Nars’ lipsticks. They truly are so beautiful and versatile I just can’t help it. So my all-time favorite brick red is Nars Semi Matte Lipstick in VIP Red. It has the perfect amount of sheen, it makes me feel like my teeth are whiter, and best of all it makes me feel like Marylin Monroe. My favorite way to wear this shade is with a gold tone light shadow, a thin swipe of black liner, and mascara keeping the look all about the lip. For a lower price point, I really like L’oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive Reds in Eva’s Red, this shade is a definite necessity for the olive-toned girl, but is also beautiful on every other skin tone. If this red isn’t exactly what you are looking for there are several others in this collection for you to choose from, and at $8.99 a piece you could always get a couple!
I am in love with the burnt orange, or sienna shades that I am seeing this season, also pictured on my gorgeous model Greer. I am not sure that everyone can pull this shade off, but I say it’s definitely worth trying! On Greer I decided to go a little more bold with a new shade from Mac Cosmetics Viva Glam Lipstick in Miley II. Mac Cosmetics Lipstick are classic, they always provide a true hue punch- you really can’t go wrong. This shade is a true bright orange, but I love watching the way the color alters based off of my model’s natural lip tone, and I love this shade on Greer. For a more wearable fall orange shade I love Ellis Faas Milky Lips in Burnt Orange. With a high shine finish and a non sticky feel this lip product is great for any fall activity.
Cherry Blossom Pink is a color I was surprised to see on the list. It screams spring to me, but at the same time it was all over the fall runways and turned out to be utterly refreshing against the dark plums, reds, and browns. This shade is universally flattering and I especially love it on dark skin tones. I have 3 in this category the first being Givenchy Beauty Le Rouge in Rose Dahlia. I would consider this a semi-matte. It goes on beautifully, is the exact color I think of when picturing cherry blossoms, and the best part was my lips felt moisturized all day. Next for the girl on a budget is Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color in Dollhouse Pink. Another semi-matte color, it goes on smooth and stays put. It didn’t bleed, but it did dry out my lips a little bit, which is common even with the most expensive long wear lip shades. Last, I can’t get enough of Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in La Diva. This shade may be a tad between the line of cherry blossom and fuchsia, but it is too stunning not to mention. If you only buy a couple lipsticks this fall, this shade should be one of them!
Deep Plum is a shade I have just recently became brave enough to wear. I purchased Nars Audacious Lipstick in Liv for my kit, pictured with model, and after using it a few times decided I needed one for my handbag as well. This shade is deep, but not so dark you can’t pull it off, trust me! It goes great with bronzes and neutral tones on the eye. For me, I don’t feel the need to look any further than this shade in the deep plum category, but for you guys I did and I found another one I liked. Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Creme in Scandal. This lipstick is longwear (promising 10 hours), but also manages to be creamy and full of vibrant pigment. I also love what Marc Jacobs has done by giving their beauty line such sleek packaging. Another worth mentioning is Laura Mercier Lip Parfait Creamy Color Balm, Chrome Extravagance in Creme De Cassis. Despite the mouthful of a name it is a incredible nourishing lipstick that feels so good you sometimes forget you are wearing anything at all. It is a part of their fall collection so be sure to pick one up before they are gone.
Lastly, the ever popular Nude Lipstick. Still the shade most frequently paired with a smokey eye. The go-to when you just can’t decide. My first pick in this shade is Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Naked2. It’s creamy, long-lasting, and hydrating. The hydrating aspect of these lipsticks make them great in lighter shades, but I notice some bleeding in the darker ones, so avoid those unless you are also applying a lip liner. Another favorite in this color is Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Nude Beige. I love every shade in this line, I love how it goes on, how it feels through out the day, and how infrequently I have to reapply. The only thing I don’t love is how fast I go through it. The last lipstick I am featuring today is the affordable option in the Nude category, Covergirl Star Wars Limited Edition Colorlicious Lipstick in Nude 70. This lipstick is infused with shea butter, goes on smooth and lasts, its my new favorite every day shade. Plus, it has fun Star Wars packaging that makes me feel pretty cool when pulling it out of my purse.
Thanks for stopping by this week and until next week,
