Curls For All The Girls

Curls, Waves, Beach, Spiral, Loose, Mousse, Gel, Natural just some of the terms used when referring to our idea of how to achieve perfectly curled hair. So let’s chat about the best products to get those gorgeous locks you’ve been coveting.

First let’s talk tools. Classic curling iron, Wand, or is there something even better?

Curling Iron, I am loyal to Conair and Hot Tools when it comes to curling irons. The benefit to a curling iron is you get 2 in one. The disadvantage is when you want to use it as a wand you have to hold the clamp open the entire time, plus avoid the clamp portion, so it takes a little more skill. Conair has a short cord, so keep that in mind. Both curling irons have various heat settings to achieve the just right curl for whatever your occasion, I just love curling my hair, more often than not that is the look I go for!

Wands, to some they can be intimidating, but I think you will find they are easier than they appear. My favorite brand by far is Paul Mitchell’s Pro Tools Express Ion 3 in 1 wand. It has a higher price point but does come with 3 different wand sizes that are easy to clip on and take off. On the lower end of the price scale I am a big fan of Bed Heads wands. The benefit to a wand over a curling iron is that it really is the best way to achieve the effortless, natural, wave.

Falling under the other category is the Curl Machines that I am seeing more of these days. BaByliss is by far my favorite in this category and really the only one that worked. For me I don’t think these machines have the capabilities the other 2 do. This one is also a pretty high price point. If you find one you love let me know, because as of now I am underwhelmed.

The Products used for the perfect curls vary on your hair type.

IMG_2688If you find that you tell people your hair doesn’t hold curl here are some things you need to know.

Dirty hair works better, if you can get away with not washing it everyday, avoid washing it the day you want to be curly fabulous.

If you do need to wash your hair every day, that’s ok, the key is to dirty up with product prior to curling. When your hair is wet it’s good to add a nickel size amount of mousse to your hair. Once it’s dry putting some dry shampoo at the roots yeps with both volume and curl holding.

Next choose your device, when it comes to stubborn hair, I like to suggest the wand.

The curls just manage to hold a little longer with a wand. Which ever tool you choose you always want to set your curls with a strong hold hair spray. My favorite flexible strong hold is made by Redken and it is their quick dry 18 hairspray. A product not specifically made for holding curl but works wonders is Kevin Murphy Texture Master. It is really meant for back combing and volume. It is a bit stickier in texture, but packs a serious curl holding punch. I am also  huge fan of TRESSeme Freeze Hold Hairspray. It is inexpensive but super effective!

If your hair is already wavy, or just simply holds curl well, you’re lucky. The products you need are minimal and the more important part is finding a tool you love. All the products above work for you as well. If you over curl and want to tone it down, take some wave spray, Not Your Mothers Beach Spray is my favorite, and spray your hair lightly coating all sections, brush through, scrunch, and let it dry. Beyond that a curl cream or Gel can help tame frizz. Make sure to live by the less is more lifestyle, because you can always add more, but having to wash too much out is never fun. I am always on the hunt for new products and tools, and always spending more than I should in that search. I promise to keep the tips coming as I continue on my quest!

Until Next Week,

Stay Beautiful

Stay Classy

My favorite trend right now is by far thigh high boots! However, it’s easy to look like a lady of the night wearing these bad babies! The key is to keep these uber sexy boots sophisticated and stylish, not tacky and promiscuous. Here is one outfit idea that take a pair of thing high boots perfectly into the cold winter months.

Combo 2

Wearing: Boots – Asos | Sweater Dress – Bella Lux | Hat – Forever 21

Because these boots are so dramatic, proportions really come into play when planning what to wear with them. I like to have only a few inches show above the knee, and no more! Or, two more great looks are to wear pants in your boots or even a midi dress over your boots, for extra cozy looks. But, I decided to wear this sweater dress I just got because it already keeps me very warm and it is the perfect length. I like to pair my thigh highs with warmer looks, instead of summery ones because I find it more fitting. My personal style preference is that these warm boots are more appropriate with a wintery outfit. I love this knit sweater dress because it’s fuzzy fleece on the inside but knit on the outside, which means it is extra warm! Per usual, I tossed on a felt wide brimmed hat to complete the look and tie in the dark black suede texture of the boots.

Combo 1

This look is simple yet sexy and cozy but not bundled! It is an ideal easy outfit for the winter season.

Happy December !

XOXO – Emily

Combo 3

Inspiration, humor, perspective, art. These components come from many different sources, especially in the world of social media – but one very special individual who envelopes all 4 of these characteristics, brings them to light with the fresh, yet timeless platform…of a stick figure. My favorite stick figure for that matter. Discovering @mystickythoughts on Instagram has quickly become one of my favorite finds from this year – an honest, opinion bearing character whose community of fellow sticks share in experiences that remind us of a moment or two (or seven+) that we’ve maybe had, or thought, ourselves.

MST_Hi-Res.12My Sticky Thoughts is an art project that attempts to show how human experiences and thoughts are independent of our identities. In a day where social media promotes individual exceptionalism, we wanted to create something that people from various backgrounds, sizes, and colors could relate to. Something simple, something maybe a little edgy, a little vulnerable, once in a while offensive, but always honest to the cause. We want to share our unoriginal thoughts in a unique way that causes people to see themselves in someway, even if they don’t know why.

-My Sticky Thoughts creator, The Everyman

MST_Hi-Res.11Having a connection, such as I do, to this little stick figure, I was elated when The Everyman was available to put together some songs for this week’s playlist, describing them for us as, “10 songs that represent the insanity, the heartbreak, the debauchery, and the global apathy I try to convey through my art. They’re songs I’ve liked for a long time and also sometimes draw to.”

Simian Mobile Disco – Hustler
Our first song is “Hustler,” by Simian Mobile Disco. This song demands head nodding and foot tapping at the very least. Singing the words makes you a full-on accomplice to petty theft. We picked this song because sometimes it feels good to think about being bad, and the beat is the perfect abettor.

Thieves Like Us – Drugs in My Body
When drawing, we like to play tunes that don’t take us away from the work we’re focused on but instead compliment the work we’re doing. The depraved subject matter is somehow muted by the singer’s nonchalance over what’s happening in the song. This beat and the prosaic melody it comes with have inspired some of our most deviant works.

Blakroc – What You Do to Me
This song is off the ‘heartbreak’ playlist. Sometimes when seeking inspiration we turn to playlists that we’ve created around certain moods or situations. This song will keep you company after a breakup, and the organ in it sounds like it’s experienced forlorn love first hand.

Faithless – Mass Destruction
You had me at – “Fear is a weapon of mass destruction”. This song has been in the arsenal for over a decade and it still plays as well now as it did then. Art that tackles global and social issues is some of the best for inciting discussion and bringing attention to the world’s injustices. We chose this song because it inspires us to think globally and call out inequality as we see it, via art.

Mos Def (feat. the Ruler) – Auditorium
We listen to a lot of Mos. We chose this one because it’s a solid example of the catchy yet unconventional beats and smooth raps that are bound to play in our heads throughout the day long after the song has ended. Perfect drawing music, perfect everything music.

You! – Ouhoho (Bumblebeez Remix)
Just because something doesn’t make sense doesn’t mean it can’t be dope and awesome anyway. This song is masterfully absurd and inspires us to create art that does the same. Not everything needs to have a point, and that’s just the point.

Nightmares On Wax – Be, I Do
Perfect for both driving down the freeway with the windows down, or drawing, editing, and revising. This song is on point for chilling with friends, thinking about good times, and maintaining an anonymous online presence.

Beck – Que’ Onda Guero
This song is fun to chill to and we respect Beck’s attempt at pseudo-mariachi. We chose this song because melding cultures for the sake of art can make for some unique and fun outcomes. Nothing too serious, just jovial cultural cohesion. ¡Mas cerveza!

Chromatics – Kill for Love
Everyone wants something, be it love, money, solitude, carbs… We chose this song because it’s about wanting something you don’t have and the person you are because of it. A lot of the art that comes out of MST deals with this same topic. Sometimes you get what you want, sometimes you don’t… either way, it changes you.

Yeasayer – Tightrope
Regret is a tough one. Who’s to say it doesn’t have a use? If so, what is it? This song answers neither of those questions and instead laments with a perfect instrumental counterpart the pain of wishing you’d done things a different way. We picked this song because we’ve found a use for regret… and it’s to inspire our art.

Thank you Everyman for curating this week’s playlist, and for creating art that at any given moment, makes me pause, reflect, sometime laugh out loud, and always- want to share.

A Guide to Black Friday Shopping

Let’s be real. Black Friday can be one of the most nerve racking and hectic days of the holiday season, right along with crazy family dinners!

It’s hard to decide where to go, what to buy, what to wear, and how much coffee to drink (waking up early is the worst right?). Because of all of the craziness surround Black Friday, I try to make the day as easy going as possible! And here’s how you can too.

1. It’s coffee o’clock: Treat yourself to some delicious coffee or tea in the morning before you go out shopping. I prefer drinking chai lattes. They taste like the holidays and have enough caffeine to keep you energized for a day of shopping.

2. Be cute, yet comfortable: Odds are that you will most likely see a few people you know while out shopping! That being said, stepping out in your fuzzy robe and sweatpants probably isn’t the best idea. I recommend wearing a comfy pair of jeans and a warm sweater or sweatshirt. To amp up the cool factor, throw on a classic jacket. Here, I am wearing my favorite leather jacket, but a camel coat or even a bomber jacket would look great! The best tip I have for a Black Friday outfit is definitely to wear sneakers! Sneakers are the best and you’re feet won’t be killing you all day. Lastly, throw on a hat to stay extra warm, and in my case to cover up my dirty bedhead!

Wearing: Beanie-Handmade | Jacket-Forever21 | Jeans-H&M | Sneakers-Nike | Bag-Ruti Horn |          Sweatshirt-Russel

3. Know what to buy: Knowing what you want to purchase will save you time and money, but coming up with original gift ideas can be a challenge! Luckily for you I have a few ideas that I have used in the past and have been great gifts.

  • Custom photo-books are great to capture your favorite moments spent with a loved one and are very personal.
  • Hand knit or crochet goodies are great ideas for just about everyone! Spouses love to get hand made blanket and anyone loves a cute beanie or scarf for winter.
  • Jewelry is a go-to for me. A simple custom necklace or ring is something that everyone, especially your mom, would appreciate.
  • Groupon getaways are a bit more pricey, but if the person you’re giving a gift to already has everything under the sun, then maybe what they need is an experience instead.

4. Shop Local: Not only will shopping at local boutiques and stores get you away from the huge department store crowds, but I’ve found that small stores often have the most high quality and personal items. And, supporting you local economy is never a bad way to go!

Happy Holidays & Happy Shopping

XOXO- Emily

Black Friday Beauty

Black Friday, a day I have both participated in and have bowed out of depending on the year and the deals. For some of us, it is a can’t-miss gift purchasing occasion. Whether or not the gift is for yourself or someone on your list is your own business (your secret is safe with me!).

Beauty Day 444First, let’s talk about the products that you need to make it through Black Friday looking flawless and well rested.

Whether you wake up at the crack of dawn or head out before your head even hits the pillow, let’s start with the most important products for your skin–skincare. When it comes to a daily routine, we all have one that works for us, but on Black Friday maybe you need a little more of a skincare punch to start your day. The best way to prep tired skin is to start by exfoliating. For exfoliating there are 2 products I swear by:
1. My Clarisonic, nothing compares and nothing leaves me feeling as fresh, clean, and soft complected.
2. My doTerra Reveal Facial System, it is a 2 part exfoliating system that warms up on the skin and leaves you feeling like a new woman. Seriously-this is a must have for your medicine cabinet. It is also gentle which is a huge plus for me.

Next lets moisturize. On a normal day, I throw on some Neutrogena and call it a day. However with all the free radicals Black Friday may bring, I am going to amp up my moisturizing routine.
1. The number one beauty rule in hydration – Dehydrated skin looks dull, so drink a big glass of water before hitting the streets. Make sure to also take a bottle with you- you’ll need it.
2. Next, a moisturizer with hyloronic or glycolic acid and vitamin C. My number one choice is Ole Henriksen Pure Perfection Creme. On the less expensive side, I am a huge fan of Kiss My Face Moisturizer.
3. Eye Cream, because no day should start without protecting your delicate eye area. My favorite eye cream no matter your age or skin type has not changed in a couple years. Some have come close, but none have succeeded to get me to switch over from my Verso Super Eye Serum. The airtight pump keeps it fresh and free from bacteria, it last forever, and it really makes a difference in my eye wrinkles.

After we moisturize, it’s time to prime the skin. For a facial primer that keeps your makeup fresh throughout the day, I turn to Make Up For Ever. They have several to choose from based off of your skin type, and you can’t go wrong no matter which one you choose. I go with their skin equalizer and pore minimizer.

Next, a step that must not be skipped in the world of everlasting makeup, is priming your eyelids prior to shadow application. I have 2 favorites and so really it boils down to your brand preference:
1. Urban Decay Shadow Primer Potion
2. Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

Beauty Day 017I am an “apply eyeshadow, then foundation” kind of girl. That way, if I make a little bit of a mess with my eyeshadow it doesn’t mess up my foundation. So my natural next step is to apply my shadow. For something quick and easy that wakes up the eyes but lasts all day I use:
1.My Stila Soul Palette. The lighter colors with a bit of shimmer really brighten any eye color, and you can use any of the darker shades to smudge them along your lash line for an extra pop that allows you to skip the eye liner step.
2. However, if you are someone who can’t go without liner, I have to tell you about Tarte’s new to-die-for liner. Their Tartiest Clay Paint Liner is amazing, it’s long wear, easy to apply, and flake or crack free! It’s wonderful!!
3. Next is mascara. One that doesn’t irritate the eyes but stays put can be tricky to find. In any case, I have found the winner in Sephora Collection Full-Action Waterproof Extreme Effect Mascara.

Beauty Day 268Next, let’s get your beautiful face ready for the big shopping day. As many of you know, I am a huge Giorgio Armani foundation fan. However, as much as I love my Lasting Silk Foundation, on a day like black friday I turn to something a bit more affordable but just as fabulous:
1. Revlon Color Stay or combination/oily skin (they also have one for dry skin). This foundation truly lasts all day, it keeps my oil at bay and I don’t have to keep checking mirrors to make sure it hasn’t slipped right off my face.
2. For both bronzer and blush, I count on the lasting power of Nars. I use my Laguna Bronzer and Deep Throat Blush.
3. Next, I seal in my look with Make Up For Ever HD Powder. I prefer the loose but the pressed is just as wonderful.
On a normal day I would highlight with my Josie Maran and Laura Mercier highlighters, but I think the hustle and bustle of Black Friday will give me a natural glow, also known as sweat.

As a last step in my BFBR (Black Friday Beauty Routine), I pop on my Eos Lip Balm and toss it in my hand bag so I can reapply through the day. Oh, and don’t forget to brush your teeth!

Now that you’re ready to go out into the world, let’s talk about the must-purchase items for every makeup lover in your life!

Major makeup brands, and major makeup stores, don’t do huge deals for the holidays. Or at least it may appear that way at first glance. Although there may not be a buy one get free deal, or 50% off sign posted above your favorite brand, they do offer gift sets that end up being huge savings! I have scoured the shelves and websites of my favorite brands and am happy to share my favorites with you.

Beauty Day 167Lorac is a brand that used to be one of my favorites. Then, for a couple years, I was feeling like they were falling short. However, they have totally redeemed themselves with their new pro palettes. While shopping in Ulta, I came across their contouring and highlighting palette and was pleasantly surprised. The pigments were both great in color and texture. It was like feeling silk. I even made my boyfriend feel it! He didn’t get it, but trust me, if you are looking for a contouring palette, this is my new favorite! The same goes for their eye shadow and blush palettes. All of the colors are full of amazing pigment and they glide on with such ease. The Mega Pro Palette has 32 shades and is $59, making it $1.84 an eye shadow!!

Let’s talk about the Nars Steven Klein line. I am a firm believer you can not go wrong with Nars, it is always beautiful. However, not all of these gift sets bring great savings. The packaging is beautiful, but once you look past that, which ones are really worth purchasing? In my opinion, if you are going to spend the larger dollar amount, here is where you should spend it. Either on the Dead of Summer eye shadow palette, or their Magnificent Obsession lip trio featuring the perfect shade of red for the holidays. The dead of summer eye shadow palette features their dual-intesity eye shadow,  and I have shared my love for these with you before. In case you are new to our site, these shadows are a favorite of mine because they can be used wet or dry. While dry, they have a nice sheer everyday finish. When used wet, the color becomes deep and intense. They can be used as shadow or eyeliner, and to put it simply, it’s wonderful.

Beauty Day 214Tarte also came out with some fun palettes for the holidays, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the bulkiness of their packaging. For me, I think of how something is going to fit in my kit, and these just wouldn’t. However, their Dressed to the Nines LipSurgence Lip Creme gift set was a definite must-purchase on my holiday list. Whether you are keeping it for yourself, giving it to one person, or piecing out the 9 lip shades to multiple friends and family members, you can’t go wrong.

NYX has different sets depending on where you are shopping. Ulta carries a large selection, but be warned these fly off the shelf, so get there…now! I found myself purchasing a few lip sets, and one of their full look sets. The lip sets come in 3’s, giving you 3 colors in either matte lipstick, butter gloss, chubby lip pencils or butter lipstick. The full look set, my favorite being the unraveled look set, comes with an eye shadow palette featuring 6 versatile shades, jumbo eye pencil, matte lipstick, and a studio liquid liner. At the price point of $17.99 this is a great and affordable gift, I am hoping to find one of these in my stocking!!

To wrap up this article, I am going to list a few more of my favorite palettes without the long winded reason why I love them, because truly I could go on forever. If you have any questions about these sets, please feel free to ask!

Beauty Day 466

  • Stop into Target for some great sets from ELF and Sonia Kashuk. You can’t go wrong with Sonia’s festive and pretty brush sets. My favorite find from ELF was their Eyes and Face Palette.
  • My friends at have some great holiday palettes but my favorite has to be The Legacy Palette from Kevyn Aucoin, this palette is crazy beautiful and filled with the highest quality cosmetics. The next thing I would throw in my shopping cart would be the Eternally Yours Liquid Lipstick set of 6 from Stila. If you haven’t tried Stila’s liquid lipstick yet, you should, because your lips deserve a Christmas, Hanukkah, or Just because gift too! Also, you can shop now, and when you spend $95 you get $20 off using code THKSG20
  • Josie Maran’s Whimsical Wonder set is not only a great intro into her beautiful products, but at $34 a great deal!
  • currently offering 25% off when you spend $50 or more with the code HOLIDAY15. I recently purchased their For 25 Years Our Lips Have Been Sealed lip palette, featuring 25 beautiful lipstick shades. As well as their Art. Love. Color Palette (a Sephora exclusive) that is full of eye shadow, blush, and highlighters. It is my new kit staple.
  • Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Glow on the Go set is the perfect combo of liquid and powder highlighters. Becca highlighters are some of my favorite and this little set is a great intro to this amazing product.

Skincare sets exist year round, so treat yourself to the fun makeup sets. Don’t forget to sign up for loyalty programs to get coupons and points for your purchasing. Happy Shopping!

One of the Boys

Rocking a menswear inspired look requires a lot of self confidence.

I personally find it easier to feel cute and pretty in a dress with my hair done up compared to wearing a menswear look. What I don’t feel when I wear a girly outfit, however, is unique, inspired, or interesting. With menswear looks I feel all of these things. To me, it’s more important to feel unique and intriguing rather than feel like just another basic girl in a dress. Menswear is a style that all women and girls should experiment with to find their own sense of self-confidence and feel comfortable and empowered to try something new.

Wearing: Pants-H&M | Blouse-Zara | Shoes-BCBG | Coat-ONLY

Menswear inspired fashion does not mean that you have to go buy ill fitting baggy clothes in the mens department. Instead, it has elements of structure and classic menswear shapes. For example, items such as button-up shirts, high waisted trousers, brogues and loafers, and especially tailored jackets, all add a sense of masculinity to an outfit.

IMG_5183Here, I chose a pair of high waisted camel trousers with structured pleating and a tie-belt waist. These remind me a lot of late thirties and early forties menswear. I paired them with a neutral button up blouse. I really enjoy the two neutrals together. It makes the outfit look much more expensive than it actually is. Over the top of this I tossed on a silky black cargo jacket. I rolled up the sleeves to toughen up the look, but the silky fabric brings in a touch of femininity. Because this look is menswear inspired and not actually menswear, I chose to wear a pair of classic black pumps. However, if you are really committed to your full menswear look, a pair of loafers or oxfords would look amazing !

XOXO- Emily

Urban Decay Vice Pallete

Urban Decay has always had fabulously pigmented shadows, they go on smooth and blend seamlessly. The Vice4 Palette is no different.

IMG_2394aThe shadows are beautiful. What is fun about this palette is that it mixes every day shades like Bones, Delete, Crowbar, and Discreet with shades for those days you feel like being a little more creative like Beat Down, Fast-Ball, Flame, and Grasshopper to name a few. Equally as fun is the look of this palette, both inside and out. It was designed to look like all the beautiful colors fell in an oil slick. The shadows come in an extra slim case, with a dimensional web of broken-down facets layered over a matte black lid. Rich metallic inks give the case a mesmerizing oil slick effect, and a hint at the shades that are found inside the palette. It conveniently has a full sized mirror for on-the-go application, as well as a double ended brush. The brushes that come with Urban Decay’s Palettes are as high in quality as any brush they would sell separately. This palette may cater to the more adventurous makeup maven, but don’t be afraid if that isn’t you. There is something for everyone inside Vice4.

You might think that I’d go over the top and crazy with this array of colors to choose from. Instead, I decided to use strictly black on my gorgeous model Eliane, and go over the top with the design rather than the shades. No matter what the occasion or look you’re going for, you can create it with this palette. With all the holiday palettes headed your way, keep this one in mind, and have fun creating!
Until Next Week,

Don’t Get Stuck in a Style Rut

So it’s fall, as we’re all well aware! Big fluffy scarves and cozy sweaters have already made their way into your wardrobe. Your go-to outfit is most likely very similar day in and day out, and I understand! It’s hard to switch up your style when you’re most concerned with staying warm and dry. Here is an outfit idea to help you get out of that fall style rut.

Wearing: Onesie – H&M | Booties- Kenneth Cole | Hat – Forever 21

It’s difficult to wear a different coat or a different pair of boots everyday, especially when you’re on a budget! So, I recommend experimenting with some different silhouettes. Most people think of a onesie as a summer piece, but it is perfectly capable of transitioning into fall.

I purchased this jumper from H&M for only $9. It’s classy yet edgy at the same time. The silhouette has some 30’s and 40’s vintage menswear inspiration, but the drawstring waist keeps the look feminine and flattering. The sale section is such an amazing place this time of year. Stores are clearing out tons of inventory to fit in all of their new winter apparel, so it’s more than feasible to find a gem like this at a discount price.

I paired this khaki onesie with a pair of heeled ankle booties as well as a matching wide brimmed hat. If it’s especially chilly where you live, a long scarf and structured neutral toned coat would look great over this look as well.

I hope this helps you in your search for alternatives to your basic fall outfit!

You’re Making Me Blush

Blush is an essential part of the everyday woman’s morning routine. And yet, I somehow haven’t talked about my favorites with you all. It seems easy enough, but selecting a blush that is the right shade, goes on evenly, and lasts throughout the day is not as easy to find as some may think. Today, I am going to touch on blushes by both skin tone and skin type. Here are my tops picks by shade and skin tone compatibility.

Baby Pink – Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rose Ecrin

Peach – Nars Blush in Deep Throat

Sheer Plum – Josie Maran Coconut Water Color Cheek Gelee in Berry Bliss

Apricot – Nars Multiple in South Beach or Stila Convertible Color in Petunia

Mauve – Loreal Paris True Match Super Blendable Blush in Spiced Plum

Soft Berry – Smash Box Blush Rush in Radiance

Orangey Peach – Josie Maran Cream Blush in Sunset

Rose – Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rose Initial

Bronze – Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Allure

Raisin – Make Up For Ever HD High Defenition Blush in #1 or Mac Powder Blush in Raizin

Brick – Marc Jacobs Beauty Shameless Bold Blush in Irresistible

Bright Tangerine – Revlon Photo Ready Cream Blush in Coral Reef or Nars Blush in Exhibit A

Now what type of blush is best for your skin type? You have two options: Cream or Powder.

As someone who has incredible oily skin, I was skeptical about using a cream blush. I mostly worried about its ability to last throughout the day. However, I found it lasted just as nicely as my normal go-to powder blush. If I was a dry skin type, cream would be the way to go. For all other skin types, I say use what you love. Use whatever makes you feel most beautiful. Just remember, when it comes to blush, it is best to start light, and you can always add more if needed. As always, thanks for stopping by and reading.

Until next week,

Stay Beautiful

Double Denim

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake made this look famous at the 2001 AMAs and Canada coined its own term for the getup: the Canadian Tuxedo. However, aside from its fashion prestige, I simply like to call it double denim.

Wearing: Jacket- Vintage Levis | Jeans- Guess | Blouse- Vintage | Booties- H&M | Hat- Forever 21

In all reality, denim on denim has a bad rap! Maybe it’s a little bit farmer, or a little bit white trash, but I think it’s amazing and it has definitely made its way into high fashion! Here’s one way I style double denim for fall.

For this look, I was really inspired by summer music festival fashion trends, but I wanted to find a way to translate them into a cozier look for fall. First, I chose two denim pieces that complemented each other nicely. When choosing blue denim, a there are a few good tricks to making it work!

1: Use one piece that is not distressed and another one that is. Here, I chose a pair of over-distressed skinny jeans and paired them with a less worn Levi’s Denim jacket with just a few bleach stains.

2: Pair contrasting washes together so that you don’t look like you’re actually wearing a denim suit. Choosing a lighter wash to go with a darker wash splits up the denim so it looks more edgy and styled. Here, I chose to go with a darker jacket and a light wash pair of jeans, but the opposite of this would work too!

3: Choose a fitted piece and an oversized one. When wearing double denim it’s important to think about proportions. If you have a baggy pair of skinny jeans, then a fitted jacket or vest will look better on the body. Same goes for this look I styled. An oversized men’s denim jacket looks the best paired with a tighter pair of jeans. A look that we all want to avoid is drowning in denim.

To complete this look and be on trend with some of the music festival style, I paired the two denim pieces with a lace front blouse. I’ve seen many of these in stores and on social media, but I actually purchased this one vintage, which goes with the music festival vibes all the better. I like that it’s oversized and neutral. I chose a trusty pair of black leather booties and a coordinating wide brimmed black hat to complete the look.

Have fun giving denim on denim your own spin!
I hope these tips helped you get the style down

XOXO- Emily
